Our Favorite Things to Do in Annapolis (Summer Edition)
Did you know that Annapolis was established in 1649? As you may know, the historic district of Annapolis is the capital of Maryland and the home of the United States Naval Academy. It’s no surprise that there are so many things to do in Annapolis, as the city is permeated with historic buildings, restaurants, and scenic views of the waterfront. Thus, making it a great place to enjoy a day or night out on the town. And, if perhaps you’d like to take the family out on an adventure, there are numerous parks, trails, and attractions to choose from. Annapolis truly is the perfect place to visit each and every day of the year, but the summer is when everything starts to heat up. All in all, here are some of our favorite things to do in Annapolis during the summertime.
1. Downtown Annapolis
Historic Annapolis is home to unique shops, arts and culture (visit the Annapolis Arts District), historic landmarks, restaurants and more. Indeed, you can experience all of these attractions by simply strolling through the brick sidewalks of the charming city. No matter if you are a tourist or a local, you will appreciate and enjoy scenic downtown Annapolis. Finally, end the day by visiting City Dock and feeding the ducks in Ego Alley, and you’ll understand why Annapolis is “America’s Sailing Capital.”
2. Quiet Waters Park
Quiet Waters is an infamous park in Annapolis between the South River and Harness Creek. The park’s amenities include trails, a children’s playground, concerts and picnics among acres of beautiful parkland. Further, visitors can rent a bike, canoe, or kayak and explore the natural beauty of Harness Creek.
3. B&A Trail
The Baltimore and Annapolis Trail is a 13-mile paved bike trail that begins at Jonas Green Park in Annapolis and ends at Dorsey Road in downtown Glen Burnie. The trail guides you through parks, suburban neighborhoods, and natural wooded areas. In addition, you will come across historic markers, shopping centers, and picnic areas in the park. As you’re passing through, onlookers will get a glimpse of the memorable Planet Walk. This is a museum sponsored by NASA, featuring educational displays that teach you about the planets in the solar system.
4. Haunted Pub Crawls
The most popular evening entertainment in downtown Annapolis is the Haunted Pub Crawl and the Walking Ghost Tour. On the nighttime ghost walk, you will tour through the downtown district on a hair-raising journey into Annapolis’ dark history. On the other hand, if you are up for a more bone-chilling experience, you can sign up for the Haunted Pub Crawl, where you will visit some of Annapolis’ most haunted pubs and taverns. There you will experience ghost stories and perhaps witness a restless spirit or two.
5. Schooner Woodwind
Enjoy a day at sea with a sailboat cruise! Take a trip aboard a beautiful, wooden 74-foot schooner and experience Annapolis from the views of the bay. Altogether, you can help raise the sails, steer the boat, or simply relax as you sail past the Naval Academy into the Chesapeake Bay.
